Mobile Food Market

Since August 2012, Zonta Club of Malden has partnered with Hallmark Health System, the Greater Boston Food Bank and the City of Malden to provide healthy, fresh food to local “food insecure” families through its Mobile Food Market. On the second Saturday of every month (rain or shine) the Greater Boston Food Bank delivers an 18 wheel trailer of food to the Hallmark Health Parking lot.  The Zonta Club of Malden provides boots on the ground to unpack, bag, and organize food in a “farmers market.” Zontians set up, distribute, clean up and provide service with a smile.  The Z Club and the Adult members participate together as a service project for the club.

Through this monthly hands on service, the Zonta Club of Malden demonstrates its commitment to food-insecure women and girls.  In February 2014, the Mobile Food Market received national recognition after winning a Jackson Healthcare Hospital Charitable “Program of Promise” Service Award, in 2015 the Market was recognized by the City of Malden for its volunteer services and for its commitment to assisting low income families, and in May 2017 it was named one of the 10 Programs of Excellence across the country through the 2017 Hospital Charitable Service Awards.

Since 2012, the Mobile Food Market has served over one million pounds of food averaging per month 344 households
( 50-60% women led), 261 children, 397 adults, 184 seniors and 16,000 pounds of food.
